Below is a short video using the image removed from the onion and turned into 'The Rainbow Queen".  Bill Canino composed and performed the Sitar music accompanying the video. Enjoy.

I thought the poster came out pretty nice.  It is bright colorful and seems to hold the eye. Let me show you where it came from.  There were two images involved in the production of this rainbow eye catcher. The initial image was a decaying onion.

I fiddled with it a bit and then I added this rainbow patch for 'paint'.  I wasn't sure how it would work I was just doodling.

That's how the overall design got its name. I was pleased the way the colors mingled with the designs coaxed out of the onion.

I like to take an image  and 'crack it open like an egg'.  I engage in this with the idea of there being an almost infinite amount of potential in anything.

In this sense God could be imagined as the first 'Artist'. In the bible God is said to have removed "Light" from "Darkness." "Light and Darkness" became the  'paints' used to 'paint' the reality we have.

I also like to think of it in terms of the great never empty, never full, all providing Tao which enables me to conceive of what infinite means.

Escape From Babylon: poster art

The New Testament book of Revelation is the source of inspiration for this poster.  The poster is a continuation of biblical and spiritual themes which occupy my thoughts.  I have attempted to depict the chaos promised as the experience of the human race as a result of the 'wrath of God'.

The scenes opened up to us in this remarkable document reveal the future social conditions on earth as a result of the human race deciding to forget about where it originated from.  If you spend anytime watching news, the condition of the earth in all its relationships, political, spiritual and terrestrial will all at once seem like pages from this document.

In this book we are told that the earth will not be able to support life anymore because of man's activity in destroying the eco-systems upon which life depends. The mind of mankind is a bottomless pit from which all the evil expresses itself.

The text below gives the biblical context in which to view the poster.  If you would like to read more of the Book Of Revelation click here.  If the bible isn't your cup of tea, this article "The Four Plagues: Getting A Handle on the Coming Apocalypse" by Don Hazen may speak with more authority to you.

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ:

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." The passages above are selected from the Book of Revelation, the King James Version.

Help On The Way: Parallel Dimensions

"Help On The Way: Parallel Dimensions" is a bright colorful poster with the theme of angels bringing messages of life for the weary, whose spirit is dim.

This poster is designed with a partitioned format in order to convey the idea of a breaking through of the realm of the non-ordinary into the world of the ordinary and transfiguring it with light from the other realm. The poster below is available for sale. Click on the image and you will arrive at Art From Another Dimension at Zazzle.com.

Below is a video I made which I'd like to share. It is from this video project that the poster ultimately resulted. I had the idea of videoing the stream of smoke from a stick of incense to see what would result. I was more than very surprised. Take a look at "Invocation". (the video below) While watching the serpentine meander of the smoke stream I thought of the movement of spirits which has been described as being like the presence of a breeze in the air. Take a look, say a prayer wait for the Spirit to come. "Invocation" A Clear Running Water state of mind

Political and Spiritual Art Posters

I made the posters below in the first half of May.  They are the result of browsing through previously taken photographs and being moved to do something with them.  I guess you could say it is the 'vision' I am given.

By 'vision' I mean the lens by which my attention is focused.  Or perhaps the logic I use to make sense of things.  Either way, the poster art represents something from within coming out.

Because our worldview is maintained by information and distinctions many have the same feelings. We consume the same information which creates a commonly held  'spirit' which is then manifested as our life as people and as a culture.   Of course it is not our life.  Our life is 'being'.  We are not all the many things we think of when we think of our 'life'.

We are not what we do for a living.  We are in not inherently associated with the name, the identity, our parents gave us. We are not merely a physical body. Matter is a small portion of our reality. However it is the dimension or perspective of reality in which suffering occurs. As such it gets our attention and claims to be most important of all while being only an infinitesimal portion of the whole experience allowed to us as a result of 'being'

Both Jesus and Buddha understood that the feeling of being stuck in the reality of suffering is the result of an illusion, a snare, a trick of the Deceiver which manipulates our minds. It becomes a trap which keeps us stuck there, a small box in which we live but which we take to be the whole world.

It is with this common condition of suffering in mind that I conceive of the human condition.   It is this view which produces the 'vision'  by which my art seeks to transcend the illusion.

There are hopes and fears.  I have never been hesitant to look a fact in the face and call a spade a spade.   Separating illusion from what is, is a full time job.  The New Testament refers to the human being as the arena of spiritual warfare where weapons are information.  This reinforces the notion that information is a spiritual tool.  I try to extrapolate intellectual information into visual images as part of my contribution.

Below is a presentation of the posters offered for sale.

The Road to Hell is paved with good intentions an old saying goes.  This is the idea inspiring the following poster. It describes the future of world governments mad with the devotion to matter, thinking gold is wealth, but which are poverty stricken in 'Spirit'. Do you really want to hitch a ride with them?  Clicking on the image below will take you to my store at Zazzle.com where you can purchase a copy and view other work.

Spirit Baby From The Rainbow Realm

A fanciful composition. Included are several of my "Fire People" characters. This is a bright colorful unique poster depicting the arrival of a newborn spirit to a community of spirits. They arrive from the Rainbow Realm and come to bless earth. You'll recognize this when you choose to put it on your wall by the way people are affected by it.  It is sure to attract comments.

An elaborate image which began simply with two light samples I had created and used to begin this image. As all my images this one simply developed with no conscious intent and this image resulted. It is interesting to look at and will generate comments for sure. Put it someplace and see what happens.

This is the result of combining two previously finished works and applying some tools. The picture began as a doodle and became a bright colorful 24.67" w x 37" h work of its own with a white border. The poster includes one of my original "Fire People" characters landing on earth at sunrise. The colors shout with glee. Not loudly, more like a giggle. This poster is mysterious and fun resonating with a big "maybe" in everyone's thinking. The psi resolution is 300 psi This poster is fun, fanciful, colorful, and contemporary. Perfect for a child's bedroom or an older sibling's room, recreation room, or office.

This image is a composite of simple snapshots taken in my garden. In addition are "Fire People" Jack and Qkjea. I began with an intriguing photographic mistake which turned out right. I almost titled this "Chlorophyll Delivery" but decided on "Photosynthesis". I think that works. Jack and Qkjea add a sense of weirdness and whimsy. But they are beings of light and chlorophyll just wouldn't be right without light. It is made at a size of 24.5" w by 34" h at 400 psi. sure to brighten any room.

So that's what has been keeping me busy.  That and these three little furry spirits that somehow crossed my path.

Follow Me To Armageddon (poster and video by David H. Roche)

I made a video of some art involving my "Fire People" characters. The theme of the video is the impending presence of chaos and calamity spoken of by the mystic John the Revelator who wrote the book of Revelation in the New Testament.

Mallard Illusions

I had planned to go for a walk. Before leaving I crossed the street to the pond to take a look. Some days are diamonds and some are stones someone said in a song once. A few moments this afternoon turned out to be pure crystal capable of casting a spell able to be recorded on a digital camera and preserved.

Well after getting a glimpse of what my camera had seen I abandoned my walk, short as it was, and went back inside to take a closer look. I found the  "Mallard Illusions" I had snagged from the stream of time.  Clicking the highlighted text will take you to my store at Zazzle.com and the page "Mallard Illusions" is on.

In just a matter of a few minutes all the images were collected.  You can see how enchanting the illusions are in the video much better than the still shots.  But then the still shots are like shooting an animal. Making it appear alive without movement is a great challenge. The video does not suffer from that handicap and I believe you will agree it is dazzling and illusory.

Each of the images below has been selected from the series of photographs in the video.  I chose the ones I felt best fit the theme.  By clicking on the images you will be taken to Zazzle.com where prints and frames may be ordered.

Carbon Apocalypse: in carbon we trust

The public discourse on whether or not to go ahead and exploit the remaining carbon resources for a quick buck is what prompted me to put together these visual sentiments on the future of a society which has chosen carbon to provide its future energy security.

The ability to make a populace unable to decide if putting poison into their living space is harmful is a symptom of a dysfunctional democratic society. Its presence requires only blindly following leaders and experts. The leaders and experts have brought them to the point where a "carbon apocalypse" is inevitable. But we sing in unison "drill baby drill" like there's no tomorrow.

A New York Times opinion article by James Hansen Published: May 9, 2012 reveals the waiting catastrophe. A vivid description of the expected calamity is found in an article by Rick Moran at American Thinker. com

After shaking oneself free from the mind control exerted by experts and leaders it soon becomes obvious our leaders and thinkers have consistently proposed solutions that have made things worse than they were before. Does following their advice make sense anymore? Even without statistics for proof a person who has lived a lifetime knows how badly the leaders and experts have done. A person in control of his mind doesn't need someone to explain what has gone wrong.

I've made a series of prints on the theme of the impending debacle coming down on the people of the world due to the continued use of carbon based energy sources. These can be purchased at Zazzle.com. This future bearing down on us is too serious a matter to go unmentioned.

There is a department in my store for Environmental Art. As I contemplated the result of pouring poisons into the air, the water supply and the earth itself the following images presented themselves to me. Art From Another Dimension. The issues at stake involve the future of the earth as a place that is able to support human life.

An energy policy should not make people have to make that kind of choice. Some would argue that it is not actually something chosen but something shoved down their throats against their will. Whatever it is the fact remains that putting poison into the environment insures it will end up in the human body. This should be considered an unacceptable proposition. It almost seems absurd to have to point this out, but we have long since, as a society, lost track of the absolute reality of cause and effect. We appear to believe we can do anything and our actions will never have an effect we need to worry about. Below is a history of what happens when companies are allowed to use the process of 'fracking to extract carbon energy sources.

The prints are high resolution 600 psi. They are useful for poster size or mailing as postcards. Each reveals the sense of doom staring the earth and its inhabitants in the face. It is not a pretty picture but it's time to face the future and see if it can be changed. It seems like a reasonable activity to spend ones time engaged in.

Bridge In The Mist

The photographs were taken in a brief span of time on a sometime sunny, but mainly cloudy morning on or near the Riverwalk along the Columbia River in Astoria. The impulses of the weather continually rearranged the clouds allowing spectacular lighting effects to appear briefly and unexpectedly. The bridge and of course the river are what attracted me this morning. The bridge caught my attention the first time I saw it stretching four miles like a giant serpent uncoiled across the great river. In the mist it disappears halfway to the other side. It offers a photographer a lot of opportunity drizzle or shine. Today the sporadic bright sun and moisture thick air produce startling effects. The entire ‘feeling’ can change with the time required to take a few steps to for another picture. This morning elements of air, water vapor and sunlight with the motion of clouds and wind add their dimensions capriciously. The ‘Great River’ of the west is the place that greets the great ships of the sea. For now they float, unmoving, tethered at low tide. Below are some of the pictures I took which did not make it into the final cut for the video.
The images below are photographs in the video I selected. If you are interested in purchasing a print click on the image and you will be taken to my store at Zazzle.com. You will be able to choose from different frames and sizes.

Blue Moon At Midnight

Midnight is a time of mystery. In the darkness God is said to have found light, removed the light from the abode of darkness, and begun the act of creation. I thought of that as this image began to develop. It didn't begin as darkness but it did begin with an incoherent media comprised of colors of the rainbow in a pattern of stripes. One stripe for each color of the rainbow. With the blur tool I smudged and then highlighted the individual colored stripes and began to experiment. I was quite amazed at what appeared. At some point I saw the image of a pond emerge. It has the features of the pond across the street but that is a co-incidence, the pond in the image never existed. But at that point I began to actively work on making it a pond. I added the moon behind it. It turned blue accidentally and I left it that way thinking it was in harmony with the way the entire piece was developing. I added the two ducks. Actually it is the same duck in different layers with the colors inverted. My goal was a 'yin and yang' impression in the midst of bold, diversity of color. I felt the black and white were a complementary anomaly. The heron was an afterthought which I felt was needed for balance. After the initial image which is lost but consisted only of stripes of the colors of the rainbow which I applied, I eventually arrived at the two images below.
I combined the images to make "Blue Moon At Midnight" which may be purchased in a variety of sizes and frame selections by clicking the image below. You will be taken to Zazzle.com where my store is.

Dream Time

I took some pictures while on a visit to Hug Point State Park. The park is dotted with sea caves. Many are accessible and easy to be explored. An essential tool when exploring these sea caves is the use of a tide table. Not a few unsuspecting cave investigators have gotten their feet wet, or worse as a result of not taking the tide to mind. Below is one of the several caves.
I used only one initial image to make "The Fungus Collectors", the image below. I found an immense amount of possibilities in the patterns left after molten granite hardened into spontaneous designs. I began to discover and enhance what I found in the images.
The Fungus Collectors received its name in a serendipitous flash as I looked at the dark dank shapes of once liquid stone, now frozen into the face of a gnome in a cave on the sea shore. I saw one distinct face emerge as I zoomed and edited. I said; 'wow' and copied it and used it to make the three. I was quite happy to see it turn out the way it finally did. Hence the designation "The Fungus Collectors # 5". Below is the initial result. The'gnome' figure on the right simply appeared. I only touched up the very top of the head. The facial appearance is exactly as I found it. I copied it and used it. The entire form has an unusual shape which came about as liquid rock became solid.
The finished product below is available for sale by clicking on the picture. You will be taken to Zazzle.com where you can select a size and frame of your choice. "Dream Time" got it's name from the dreamy state which appeared as I worked on the picture. Several layers are involved. As I worked I remembered hearing of aboriginal myths of the Dream Time and I recalled the story of creatures emerging from inside of the earth into the light of day. So I played with that theme some. The bird in the image is a Turkey Vulture which I added for it's symbolic value. Below are the two main images I combined to make "Dream Time". I added the 'ocean' in front of it to begin the composition after combining the first two images. So the water was not where it appears it is.
"Dream Time" can be purchased by clicking on the image below. You will be taken to Zazzle.com where you can choose a size and frame. This is another photograph taken at Hug Point. It is what I accomplished by taking a photograph inside one of the sea caves looking outward. I then added an enlarged duplicate of the original and combined them.
You may purchase "Hole In The Wall" by clicking the image below. I made a video of many of the images and the art. It is below. All visual images (C) 2013 by David H. Roche a Clear Running Water state of mind
